Enhancing Service Provisions in Healthcare: Mukonjo Dispensary Scorecard Process
In the quest for improved healthcare services across Busia County, CEDC has embarked on an exciting journey of implementing the community scorecard process at Mukonjo Dispensary. The initiative aims to empower the local community in Namboboto/Nambuku ward to actively participate in assessing the quality of service provision at the dispensary. After conducting an inception meeting with key stakeholders across the ward, which paved the way for a comprehensive scorecard process. CEDC are now training the selected community members as scorecard facilitators, By conducting this trainings CEDC aims to empower the community scorecard facilitators with the relevant knowledge and skills on how they can effectively execute the scorecard process within their relevant community settings to demand accountability and enhance service provision at the dispensary.
Key Issues Identified
During the inception meeting, service users highlighted several key issues that hindered the delivery of quality healthcare services at Mukonjo Dispensary. These issues will serve as indicators for the scorecard facilitators as they engage in focus group discussions with the community members. The identified issues include:
-
Inadequate supply of drugs
-
Lack of fencing, posing security threats
-
Absence of electricity, jeopardizing vaccine storage
-
Insufficient pit latrines, compromising hygiene
-
Non-existent maternity structures
-
Concerns about the quality of maternal services
-
Lack of a laboratory, hindering service provision
-
Quality concerns regarding laboratory services
-
Absence of staff houses
-
Staffing shortages at the facility
-
Lack of water supply, impacting service quality
-
Inadequate waste management, posing hygiene risks

The Role of Scorecard Facilitators in the community scorecard process
The trained scorecard facilitators will play a vital role in the scorecard process. Equipped with knowledge and skills, they will engage the community through focus group discussions to gather feedback on the identified issues. By involving service users in the assessment of healthcare services, the facilitators will foster a sense of ownership and empower the community to demand accountability from the dispensary.

The ongoing scorecard process at Mukonjo Dispensary marks a significant milestone in enhancing accountability and improving healthcare services. By engaging the community and training scorecard facilitators, CEDC aims to advocate for the identified issues to be addressed and create an inspired society that actively demands quality service provision. Through this collaborative effort, Mukonjo Dispensary and the surrounding community are taking concrete steps towards building a stronger healthcare system that meets the needs of its beneficiaries.
